a little press for big ideas
delves into the seemingly-placid waters of the English Canon and manages to transform each poem into a beautiful, prismatic puddle. Chaves uses the AutoSummarize tool in Microsoft Word to compress classic works by Pound, Barrett Browning, Wordsworth, and Milton until each becomes a series of short poems with the density and beauty of haiku. With the addition of a short essay on process, Chaves proves her worth as a rare entity—the classically-trained emerging poet.
S.E. Chaves is currently completing her undergraduate degree in Creative Writing and English at York University. She is keenly interested in the English canon and court poetry from China, Japan, and Korea. When not conducting conceptual raids on the canon she edits for The Quilliad, a Toronto based literary publication.
